There are highlights and accomplishments in a stallion’s lifetime that carry a special place in an owner’s heart forever. Paul “Woody” Mercer and Team Coloso can make that statement at the end of the 2005 show season. Ponderosa Coloso, for the fourth straight year has attained excellence from his offspring in the show ring to finish in the number four position on the Top Ten Sire list. No doubt this honor is very prestigious, not only for the horse, but for all of Team Coloso. There are many pieces of the puzzle that must come together for a stallion to be on the top ten list. First and foremost, the stallion must pass to his get the attributes necessary to compete in the show ring on regional and national levels. Every member that shows will tell you the competition is awesome in every class, making placements at regional and national shows a notable honor for both horse and participant alike. Finishing high on the top ten sire list each year is an everlasting testament to Coloso’s gift to the Paso Fino world. We must thank Paul Mercer and Bill Minter (manager) for giving many the opportunity to show a Coloso offspring this past year.

Owners and trainers of these horses make the dream of reaching the top ten list a reality. Many come together under the umbrella of Team Coloso, all for the common goal of demonstrating the excellence of his offspring for everyone to see. Should someone ask why you show from this stallion, be prepared for a world of accolades to be given. You need only
work with one of these horses to become a believer!

The stage was set at the 2005 Paso Fino National Show for his offspring to demonstrate the superb qualities passed by this stallion. The highlights included winning Grand National Pleasure Mare/Fillies Champion and Reserve Grand National Championships in Amateur Owner Pleasure Mare/Fillies, Performance Stallions/Colts, and Bella Forma Mares/Fillies. There were a total of 11 National Champions and 7 Reserve National Champions crowned as well, along with numerous other placements during the show. Once again Ponderosa Coloso was the highest money winning stallion in the breeder’s sweepstakes classes and his daughter, Coloso’s Musica PM, was the High Point Horse of the national show. Musica’s achievement is even more impressive as this occurred at the tender age of three. Coloso’s offspring definitely rose to the occasion at the nationals and many of Team Coloso will carry something special in their hearts from this show!

Team Coloso has grown over the years from three members to a group of twenty five. A larger forum is now needed to communicate with and distinguish these team members as we continue towards the future. At our cyber home here at
Caballo de USA, you will find info on members, awards, regional and national shows, and our past history. You may even see photos of our team having a lot of fun at these shows!

Team Coloso would like to take the opportunity to congratulate all of the stallions on this prestigious list. Competition makes the best of the best rise to the top and certainly this list is no different. Coloso offspring earned over 1000 additional points this year over the 2004 show season total ... and we look for bigger things in the very near future. This will happen with our saddle horses maturing, great young horses entering the ring next year, and breeding to some of the finest mares available for the future. Don’t miss the fun, join Team Coloso now with the purchase of a show prospect, trail mate, or breeding package for next year. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
